The Martindale I want to help us create:
- is authentically welcoming to all residents, new and “well seasoned” (old?)
- models professionalism and collegiality in all conversations and meetings
- is organized
- plans ahead
- shares information widely and through many pathways to reach as many residents as are interested
- works hard to get it right, but admits and apologizes when we fall short
- values the expertise of each resident and welcomes their input and assistance
- supports small, locally owned businesses
More on my Priorities
Priority 1: Community-Driven Leadership
Initiatives
- Hold regular town halls and listening sessions.
- Create leadership teams for each big initiative with residents from different neighborhoods and city administration or council members.
- Set up an online platform where people can easily share concerns and ideas.
- Redefine city council seats in a ward system rather than five “at large” seats. Representatives will come from each neighborhood (with an exception in the case when a neighborhood has no candidate to put forward).
Priority 2: A Thriving Local Economy
Initiatives:
- Promote Martindale as a destination for visitors and businesses.
- Make it easier for small businesses to start and grow.
- Work with business owners to understand what they need to succeed.
Priority 3: Stronger Infrastructure & Housing
Initiatives:
- Secure state and federal funding for road and sewer upgrades.
- Promote smart growth policies that expand housing without overburdening infrastructure.
- Improve planning to ensure new developments align with community needs.
Priority 4: Better Quality of Life
Initiatives:
- Expand parks, walking trails, and bike-friendly routes.
- Improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
- Support community events and cultural programs.
A Well-Run, Efficient City Hall
Initiatives:
- Streamline city services and modernize operations.
- Improve transparency with better communication about projects and spending.
- Set clear benchmarks for progress and accountability.

Resources on Small-Town and Rural Sustainability
I’ve been exploring various websites and attending webinars that address the challenges faced by small towns like Martindale. These sources offer different perspectives on sustainable growth, financial responsibility, and community resilience. While I don’t always agree with every viewpoint, they have helped shape my own thoughts on how to preserve what makes small towns special while planning for smart, sustainable growth.
